Taipei 101 is the skyscraper located in Xinyi District in Taipei City, Taiwan with the height of 509.2 meters (1,671 feet).

There 101 floors above the ground and 5 floors underground with the total floor area being 374,000 square meters. The building is designed by C. Y. Lee Architects Office and built by KTRT Joint Venture. The construction started in September 1999 and completed on December 31 2004. The initial name of the building was called Taipei World Financial Center and changed into Taipei 101 in 2003. Taipei Financial Center Corporation initiates the construction and is responsible for the management. Taipei 101 is the tallest building in Taiwan and the only building that has over 100 floors.

Taipei 101 holds the record of the tallest building in the world from December 31 2004 to January 4 2010 and is the first building with over 500-meter height in the world. Currently, Taipei 101 is the 12th tallest building in the world (by 2018) and the tallest skyscraper in the earthquake zone. It has been one of the important landmarks in Taipei ever since its completion.

In addition, the building has the world’s 2nd largest (second to Shanghai Tower) damper that is also the second one open to visitors (second to Shanghai Tower). It has the fourth fastest elevator in the world.
